Why ERP systems are so powerful?
There are five main reasons why companies implement ERP systems:
- integration of financial data. When trying to determine the general efficiency of the company, the president may arrive at many different conclusions. The finance department has its own income specifications, as will sales, and other business units may also come up with their own versions regarding the financial results. ERP gives you one unquestionable version since each department uses the same system.
- integration of orders. ERP systems are the place of convergence for such activities as customer orders, accepting the order for realization by customer service and sending the invoices to the finance department. The information circulates within one integrated system instead of being scattered amongst many different systems which cannot communicate. It enables the company to more easily trace the orders and to coordinate production, stock-taking and shipping from many different places at the same time.
- standardization and acceleration of production processes. Production companies, especially if they energetically seek fusions and takeovers, pay heed to the fact that many business units within the company use different methods and systems for the same operations. ERP systems use standard methods of automating selected stages of the production process. Normalization of the processes by means of one integrated computer system is a time-effective solution which increases productivity and reduces the number of required employees.
- reduction of resources. ERP systems guarantee smooth running of the production process and improve its structure within the company. This leads straight to a reduction of resources necessary for the production process (in the course of inventorization) and helps users plan deliveries to customers more effectively. Enhancing the flow of deliveries requires software designed specifically for this type of task. The ERP system allows for making this process run more smoothly as well.
- integration of administrative data. If a company consists of many units, administration may lack a uniform method for tracing the employees time and communicating with them. The ERP system is a perfect solution for improving this process.
